Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief to visit Leh on Friday to review security situation in Ladakh
7/1/2020 7:16:21 PM

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane will visit Leh on Friday to review the security situation in Eastern Ladakh in view of the Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control.

This comes after Indian intelligence agencies reported today that Chinese People's Liberation Army has deployed two more divisions across Line of Actual Control.

This deployment is likely to complicate the situation as India and China are holding military-level talks to deescalate the tension along the LAC. Earlier, South Xinjiang military chief Major-General Liu Lin had agreed to disengage troops from Galwan Valley during talks with Indian counterpart, Lieutenant General Harinder Singh, the commander of Leh-based XIV corps.

China has deployed around 24,000 soldiers in Eastern Ladakh region and as per the sources the Chinese forces have also brought in heavy guns, tanks and fighter aircraft across the LAC.

China generally deploys two divisions of troops in the Tibet region but now they have brought in two additional divisions from mainland China thereby signifying that they are not committed to their consensus of disengagement.

India is closely monitoring the development across the LAC and has decided to carry out mirror deployment in the region.
