COVID19: J&K Prisons Department begin video conference facility to interact with inmates, families
7/2/2020 9:39:14 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 2: In view of the prevailing situation of COVID 19, Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department has introduced video conference service to hold interaction of inmates with their family members and prevent the spread of the pandemic.
The exercise, however, is bearing fruits as inmates are now easily interacting their family members online without any hiccups. Superintendent District Jail Jammu Mirza Saleem Beig here said that keeping in view the Corona Virus issue, video conferencing process was set into motion so that both inmates and the families interact to each other time to time. “This exercise is very helpful as it is not only saving time but also the money, which was earlier being spent by the family to visit jails and meet their family member lodged,” he added. People of Kashmir used to visit Jammu to meet inmates and vice versa, which was not only a hectic exercise for them but also a wastage of money.
“Many families sometimes don’t have sufficient amount to visit Jammu or Kashmir but still they used to manage,” he said adding that but now the situation is different. “Those who want to interact their family member (inmate) have to go to the nearby jail in the area and register their details with day and timing following which the concerned jail is informed and the interaction is planned accordingly,” said an official.
