Broad daylight murder of youth triggers panic in town | | | ASHWANI SHARMA Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, July 2: Panic gripped the Udhampur town after a youth was brutally murdered by some unknown miscreants in broad daylight. Sources informed that the youth Rahul Bagat, 26, was killed by some miscreants near Women College about 300 meters from the home of the deceased in Dhandyal area in Udhampur town. Family sources informed that someone called them up saying that he was speaking from police station and asked to immediately visit police station as some complaint was lodged against them. “When we reached the police station someone killed the boy, who was back at home. We smell some conspiracy behind this,” family members of the slain youth claimed. After attack on the youth his relatives and some locals rushed him to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors pronounced him as brought dead. After this relatives and friends of the deceased put his body in front of District Hospital gate on Dhar road and blocked it for three hours thereby disrupting the vehicular movement in the area. After getting the news of road blockade, Additional SP Udhampur rushed to the spot and assured the protesting family members of the deceased of strict action against the miscreants. Later on the protesters removed the sit-in. However, the murder in the town after a lapse of many years spread a word of panic and people raised questions on the working of the law enforcing agencies in the area. Meanwhile, Additional SP Udhampur held a press conference in the evening wherein he informed that as per the initial investigation as well as the statement of the witnesses, it has been surfaced that a land dispute between Rakesh Kumar @ Guda, resident of Ward No 6 Udhampur and Ravinder Kumar, resident of Dhaniyal in Udhampur and others were going on for some time. Additional SP said that Rakesh Kumar @ Guda got registered two FIRS against the deceased and his family members over the land dispute. So far we have arrested four persons and further investigation in the case is still going on, said Additional SP Udhampur.
