Army gets goldmine of terror info in Shopian CASO | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 6: In a significant development, the Indian Army during a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered a “goldmine” of information about terror groups. Official sources said during a Cordon and Search Operation or CASO in Shopian district of south Kashmir, the forces unearthed an underground hideout in an orchard from where a huge cache of material used by militants was recovered. Sources said apart from items of daily use, a personal diary of a militant was also recovered. Sources said the diary mostly written in Urdu contains information about the militant groups and their ideology and can help the security forces for a major offensive against Pakistani proxies in the valley. Sources said the diary had been written by one of the militants who would write down details on the document. Sources said it was for the first time in the recent past that such a diary has been recovered. Sources said the diary had been sent to forensic experts and that a team of police officials were trying to “read between the lines.” “The diary tells a lot about the terror network and their ideology and such documents are needed for investigations and long term planning,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity but didn’t share details of whom the diary actually belonged to. It is pertinent to mention that the security forces have launched a major offensive against militant groups in south Kashmir. Over 30 militants were killed the south Kashmir districts in June alone whereas over 110 have been killed in the first six months of 2020. The Inspector General of Police Kashmir range Vijay Kumar has been saying that the terror network is almost over in south Kashmir and that now police was focusing towards north Kashmir. Police have been saying that the top level leadership of terrorists in south Kashmir has been eliminated and that now focus would be on the recently launched and so called The Resistance Front, which is seen as the shadow of the Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar and Jaish. |
