New toll plazas for Jammu; no toll tax for people in Kashmir | Different yardsticks | | Early times Report
Jammu, July 6: With the ‘support’ and ‘blessing of ‘self-styled’ nationalist J&K unit of BJP, Centre has decided to install more toll plazas to collect tax from residents of Jammu province, in Kashmir authorities have announced that people living within 20 kilometers radius are exempted from paying toll tax. A Kashmir based news agency on Monday reported, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan on Monday said that no toll shall be paid by locals “living within 20 kilomteres” of toll a plaza installed by NHAI at Kachkoot village near Sangam in southern Kashmir. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had started, from the last few days, collecting toll tax even from the locals living within the 20 kilomters. The local private vehicle owners were made to pay Rs 280 per month and passes were accordingly issued to them. “They (NHAI authorities) will not take any toll from people living within 20 kilometers radius,”, news agency quoting the advisor said. The statement followed Khan’s meeting with the authorities of NHAI here. As reported earlier, after Lakhanpur and Ban, the Centre has already decided to set up another toll plaza near Akhnoor, which is another shock to be given by BJP to the people of Jammu who are already annoyed with setting up toll plaza at Sarore and Lakhanpur. Instead of abolishing the existing toll plazas at Sarore and Lakhanpur, the BJP government is going to give another gift to Jammuites. |
