IYC lambasts economic slab for Paharis, demands roll back | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, July 17: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and leaders from Pahari community have lambasted the government for its decision to impose economic slab on Pahari Speaking People (PSP) category. Addressing a press conference here today, Iftkhar Ahmed, National Coordinator IYC, said that it is a war on the ethnicity of Paharis as a tribe. He said that Backward Classes Commission has categorized Paharis as a tribe of Jammu & Kashmir and if PSP is tribal category then how come income slab of Rs 8 lakh which is applicable to economically and socially backward classes be applicable to PSP. He further alleged that govt has backstabbed Pahari community as this reservation was meant to be based on Pahari ethnicity and not income, adding that there is no income bar on ST/SC reservation. He further urged all the Pahari leaders to fight on this issue and asked JKUT administration to reconsider this genuine issue and amend this order where there shouldn't be any income slab for people belonging to Pahari tribe. |
