Jammu, July 17: A farm women adopted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh, SKUAST-K has got the prestigious Jagjivan Ram Abhinav Kisan Puruskar 2019’. This award was bestowed to her on the occasion of 92nd foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi in an online mode on July 16. The function of ICAR foundation day was graced by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India, Narendra Tomar. Besides the Union Minister of Agriculture; Parshotam Rupala and Kailash Choudhary, both Minister of State for Agriculture were also present on the occasion. The Director General ICAR Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra was also present on the occasion. Giving details, Dr. D. Namgyal Professor and Head, KVK-Leh said that the ‘Jagjivan Ram Abhinav Kisan Puruskar’ is given every year at the national as well as zonal level. This Puruskar is given to recognize the outstanding contributions of innovative farmers’ for initiatives in development adoption, modification and dissemination of improved technology and practices for increased income with sustainability. The 2019, ‘Jagjivan Ram Abhinav Kisan Puruskar’ for the north zone has been given to Yangchan Dolma, a progressive farm women adopted by KVK-Leh and hailing from village Saboo of District Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The award carries a certificate as well as a cash prize of rupees 50,000. Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS (Ag. Extension) informed that this is back to back second award for Dolma. Earlier, in this year she also bagged the L.M. Patel memorial award by ASPEE foundation, Mumbai.
