JKNPP accuses UT administration of dual standards | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 18: “While the BJP leadership was openly holding political rallies in J&K, the opposition parties particularly the Panthers Party workers were being harassed and intimidated with FIRs registered against several of them merely for holding membership drives in various places of Jammu region. Several reports from District Ramban, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch had been received wherein the JKNPP workers complained of harassment by administration and police officials even if they went in small groups to conduct house to house membership drive for the party. He revealed that FIR had been registered against eight JKNPP Youth Wing workers of Ramban including its District President Iftiyaz Ahmed Sohale for indulging in political activists despite that fact that no public gatherings were organized by them. Likewise FIRs have been registered in District Kishtwar against Youth President of District, Imitiaz Bashir and others for allegedly indulging in political activists despite the fact that no public meeting was organized by them. In Ramsu, the JKNPP workers were threatened by local administration of punitive measures when they held protest against irregular power supply in the area. Several JKNPP workers had to seek bail to escape arrests and police action”. This was revealed by Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman-JKNPP & former Minister who submitted a memorandum in this regard to Divisional Commissioner Jammu today. Accusing the administration of double standards, Singh regretted that while opposition leaders were being targeted, the BJP activists were allowed to operate and violate the prohibitory orders as well as SDMA with impunity. They were blatantly flouting the directives of the government with none to take cognizance of their brazen defiance of magisterial orders. He pointed out that on July 10, around 300 BJP workers led by senior leaders of the party organized a rally which passed through the main city and even blocked the Tawi Bridge for hours giving a damn to the social distancing norms and prohibitory orders. Likewise an ex-BJP MLA organized a rally in Dudu on 13th July where a procession of around 200 people was taken out against the Udahmpur administration. The said ex-MLA had further given a call for civil non-cooperation movement which was duly covered in local newspapers the next day. Copies of FIRs against JKNPP workers were also submitted to Divisional Commissioner. The same ex-MLA had held political rallies on 12th and 19th June by defying the orders of District administration which had refused to grant permission for the said rallies. Likewise the BJP leaders had organized several other large gatherings in Jammu by defying the local authorities who however seemed to have buried their head in the sand. Taking the present dispensation to task for running two different sets of rules for opposition and ruling party, Singh said that such discriminatory moves of the govt. could prove counter-productive. Submitting the photographs of BJP’s gatherings to Div Com alongwith the copy of memorandum, MR. Singh called for identical treatment to all irrespective of political affiliations. He further sought Rs. 30/- ex-gratia to the family of late Shiv Raj who was brutally murdered in Seoj Dhar area of Dudu-Basantgarh on the analogy of Wasim Bari. Others who accompanied Singh in the deputation included Gagan Pratap Singh, State Secretary-J&K and Surinder Chouhan, District President Jammu (Rural)-JKNPP. |
