Appointing Ladakh president a difficult task for BJP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 18: The BJP leadership is finding it difficult to appoint a new president of Ladakh UT due to infighting within the party and apprehensions of the Ladakh unit of the party against Jammu based leaders. Credible sources said Jammu based were desperately trying to appoint their choice as new president of Ladakh UT but local leadership has made it clear that imposition of president by Jammu based leaders would not be accepted by them. Local leaders are demanding that former president and ex-minister Chering Dorjay should be again made president of the party. As per reports in a section of media, after party’s national general secretary Ram Madhav, the BJP high command has deputed general “all powerful” Ashok Koul to hold discussions with local leaders to finalise the name of Ladakh president. After the resignation of Chering Dorjay as the party’s Ladakh chief, the BJP leadership was trying to evolve consensus on the name of the new party head. As reported earlier, a group of BJP leaders in Jammu, who have already captured the J&K unit of the party, were creating hurdles in appointment of new Ladakh president. These leaders were trying their best to control the Ladakh unit of the party also because they have a habit of control all activities of the party in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Ladakh president of BJP, Chering Dorjay had resigned from primary membership of the party on May 4. After Dorjay, another BJP leader from Ladakh resigned from the party on May 6 over the Centre’s failure to address the issue of stranded Ladakhis in parts of the country and overseas. |
