Jammu, July 18: Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. J. P. Sharma paid his maiden visit to Advanced Centre for Rainfed Agriculture (ACRA), Rakh Dhiansar to observe the various research activities carried out at the Centre. At the outset, Dr. A. P. Singh, Incharge, ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar, welcomed the Vice Chancellor and briefed him regarding the various research activities and programmes going on under the ambit of All India Coordinated Research Project on Dryland Agriculture, National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture Project, University funded research programmes and various extension activities carried out under Rainfed Integrated Farming Systems and Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan. Dr. Sharma, personally interacted with the scientific staff of ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar about various research and extension activities being carried out by them. Vice Chancellor also took a round of ACRA research farm and also visited other infrastructural facilities available with the Centre. He directed the scientists to focus on location specific and farmers’ oriented research programmes. Vice Chancellor stressed upon the scientists to mainly emphasize on only such types of research activities which are of directly benefits the rainfed farmers. He also emphasized for the diversification of the existing farming system and opined that strengthening of existing farming system is the need of the hour to realize a sizeable improvement in the agricultural productivity and socio-economic status of the farmers. Dr. Sharma also unveiled Centre’s publication and planted a sapling at ACRA, Rakh Dhiansar. Dr. R. K. Gupta, Director Research SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. Pradeep Wali, Associate Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Deputy Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu also accompanied Vice Chancellor. Those who were also present Dr. Reena, Dr. Permendra Singh, Dr. Jai Kumar, Dr. Sonika Jamwal, Dr. A. P. Rai, Dr. A. C. Jha, Dr. Brinder Singh and Dr. Vikas Gupta. |
