AJKPC welcomes insurance cover for panchayat members , mining rights for PRIs | | | Early times Report
Jammu, July 18: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, premier organization of elected panchayat members have welcomed the decision of the J & K government for providing Insurance cover amounting rupees 25 Lac for Block Development Chairperson, Sarpanch and Panch in case of any loss of their life in terror related incident. Anil Sharma, president of AJKPC while appreciating the decision of the J & K administrative council headed by Lieutenant governor GC Murmu of providing insurance cover to PRI members said it was the long pending demand of their organization and finally it is approved. He said though no amount of money can compensate the loss and pain one feel on losing their dear ones but this amount of Rs. 25 Lakh will ensure that the families of the martyr PRI members live a dignified life and their dependant children continue their education for a better future. The AJKPC President also conveyed his gratitude to the J & K government for its approval of amendment of mining rules that will enable grant of Short Term mining rights (Permits) to the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) on land up to 1 hectare. Sharma said this would also help the Panchayati Raj Institutions to generate funds for them. He also reiterated the long pending demand of his organization for implementation of 73 and 74th amendment of the Indian Constitution here in J & K so that the Rural and Urban Local bodies are able to contribute in serving the people and also in overall development of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
