Renzushah seeks MGNREGA job cards for workers of quarries | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Aug 2: Chairman Jamaat Aitqaad International, Kashmir Society International, Khawaja Farooq Renzushah has requested the administration to provide alternate jobs to people who have been rendered jobless after work on Stone Quarries has been stopped. Before taking a step on Stone Quarries, the hills of Verinag where illegal heavy machines have been used for the last 30 years since 1990 to excavate precious Limestone to feed illegally private cement factories, the use of such heavy machines should have been stopped which provides benefit to few corporates. He said that several labourers of Aitqaad who had this stone quarries as a source of livelihood need to be given alternate jobs. It is appealed that under MGNREGA special job cards be issued to these labourers who would earn their livelihood by working hard under the spiritual blessing of Sufi Awaliya Karams may be issued special job cards under MGNREGA to get their monthly wages. In Kashmir, these job cards have mostly been given to political workers as vote banks. Now, these MGNREGA job cards may be given to genuine persons who lost their jobs after mining and stone quarries have been closed under new notifications. Concern to protect mine treasures of Kashmir is appreciable but at the same time, it is requested that issuance of MGNREGA job cards to all labourers for earning monthly wages. It is hoped steps will be taken immediately, he added. |
