Micro industries face closure threat, courtesy RDD | Payments on hold for past 3-years, department sleeps over LG’s directions | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 2: The micro industries in Jammu region have suffered huge losses due to their payments being kept on hold by the concerned department. Sources told Early Times that payments of many micro units have been pending for the past more than three years. This has led to these units winding up their operations. “Despite clear directions to the administrative secretaries by the Lieutenant Governor to clear pending payments nothing has been done till date,” sources added. They said that the small and tiny industries manufacturing construction materials used in rural developmental works under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) have either downed their shutters or are at the brink of calling it a day. “Many bills of Micro Industries and material components supplied through government and directly to vendors through Rural Development Department have not been cleared for years,” said owners of some micro industrial units. They said that LG had directed administrative secretaries of various departments in a meeting held on 7-7-2020 to closely monitor development works and release pending payments under various schemes on priority but no action has been taken in this regard till date. They stated that government had given written instructions to Rural Development Department (RDD) to start MGNREGA works so that rural economy is brought on the track, which has seen a drastic downfall in recent past due to lockdown in view of COVID-19 pandemic. “If construction works under MGNREGA are not carried out, it will automatically affect our industries,” they informed, adding that already 70 % of units have suffered huge losses in the last few months and many have been declared NPAs. |
