Govt to start profiling of Kashmiris travelling abroad | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 2: In a bid to beef up the national security, the government of Jammu and Kashmir will soon start profiling of the people of Kashmir, who frequently travel to places in Turkey, the Early Times has learnt. Sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police would be tasked with the maintenance of database of such people. As per the sources, the police would verify antecedents of such Kashmiri families. “Those who are here will be called to police stations for getting details whereas those who are abroad, their families will be asked to share details as needed,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. He said it was a “benign exercise” and that the people should neither panic nor pay need to rumor mongering. “This is only help us build database, nothing else,” the official said. Sources said the issue of profiling came to the fore during the lockdown in the wake of Covid19 pandemic when thousands of Kashmiris were found to be returning home from abroad. Sources said apart from going abroad for educational purposes, such people were also getting jobs in the middle east. Sources said the main reason for building up such database was that family members of several separatist leaders had found lucrative career opportunities abroad. “The families of separatist leaders are not only working abroad but some of them are promoting separatist sentiment online and thus one needs to keep track,” said the official. If sources are to be believed the police have already started preliminary exercise into some of the cases. Sources said the executive police and the CID wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police would coordinate for development of a robust database that will house relevant information as and when needed by the government. It is pertinent to mention that after the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi is brining transparency in the UT with the sole motive of getting rid of the separatist sentiment that marred J&K for over three decades now. |
