| ‘Powerful’ GRS gobbles ` 6500 from poor contractor, gets transferred; using political connection to go back | | | Ajay Sharma

SUNDERBANI, Aug 7: The political interference is casting a shadow on the working of Rural Development Department (RDD) in the union territory as a whole and this block in Rajouri district is no exception.
Early Times has learnt from sources that politicians with most of them belonging to Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) are shielding a Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) who has gobbled an amount of Rs. 6,500 from a poor contractor of a Panchayat who constructed a road in the same Panchayat at a total cost of Rs. 70,000.
“The poor contractor paid the bribe after the GRS promised him that his payment of Rs. 70,000 would be made as soon as he receives the bribe. For the past six months or so the poor man has been running from pillar to post since the payment has not been made,” said sources.
Sources said that following the complaint the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) transferred the GRS namely Pankaj Kumar to block Siote. This order was issued on July 24 with the order number being ACDR/2020-21/906-07. The order has been issued just couple of weeks back and the GRS has already pressurized the officers to bring him back to Sunderbani block.
Director Rural Development Department Jammu, Sudershan Kumar told Early Times that a probe has been ordered in the matter adding that serious complaints have been lodged against the GRS in the past as well. He assured of stern action if the allegations leveled against the GRS are found out to be true. |
