EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 24: An influential Chowki Officer posted in Doda district allegedly has been running a mining mafia despite a High Court order of ban on mineral mining of any kind across the UT. Shockingly, the officer was transferred a week ago but not relieved yet.
Even since the order of transfer of the officer was issued, the Chowki Officer Gowari has allegedly been using all methods to churn more money before leaving the police post. Sources told Early Times that the officer was in a habit of taking huge commission from transporters indulged in illegal mining on a monthly basis. For the past few days he started pressuring the drivers to extract more money from them.
Although an audio of conversation between Chowki Officer Gowari and driver has gone viral, wherein a driver was heard, whose vehicle was held up by the Chowki Officer, saying that if he has been given fixed commission every month then why their vehicles are stopped and held up in the custody while the officer in response was saying that he had not cleared his previous dues of commission.
Sources further said that the officer was recently transferred but he has not been relieved yet and staying there by using his influence, which raises questions on the higher authority, which has not been taking the matter seriously.
When SSP Doda was contacted in this connection, he said that he had no knowledge about the matter but assured that he would take action against the erring official after conducting initial inquiry.
