Deputy Commissioner Rajouri stopping the salary of the employees in the district for failing to implement Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme is a message that “lackadaisical attitude” is not acceptable in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Since the day J&K has been reorganized the helmsmen are leaving no stone unturned to infuse discipline among the officials and are trying to make them understand the importance of sticking to deadlines.
The DC Rajouri, according to media reports, was miffed due to the officials not taking the directions seriously. The DC by acting tough has driven home a point that times have changed and what used to happen in the past won’t be tolerated in the present set up.
During the past one year many things have changed and the officials, who used to survive due to their political connections, are finding it hard to adjust themselves in the new set up. If they have to exist in the reorganized J&K UT they will have to mend their ways and change their habits. All the schemes are being monitored by the Centre as New Delhi is keen on ensuring J&K’s development. The mistakes which were committed during the past 70-years have to be rectified so that people get the benefits of the schemes which they have been deprived off during the past seven decades.
The government officials should understand that their performance is being monitored and they will have to pay a heavy price for any negligent act. They will have to prove their worth if they have to hold any important position.
The Deputy Commissioner of one district withholding the salaries of the employees is a clear warning to all the officials across J&K that they cannot sit over their jobs and visit the offices just for the sake of attendance. Coming to offices for a chit chat and doing no work won’t be acceptable. If any job is assigned to them they will have to do it that too within a stipulated time. The culture of keeping the files pending has to end. The officials who have realized that they can’t take things for granted anymore are trying to realign themselves but the ones who are still living in the post August 5, 2019, era are finding it hard to understand what’s happening around them.
