JAMMU, Sept 4: "Now that Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) is planning to re-open schools, the Government must put in place all relevant precautionary measures against COVID-19 pandemic and then plan reopening of educational institutions in a phased manner. In addition, a rational transfer policy should be adopted so that teachers reach their schools conveniently". This was stated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri, who added that in absence of proper plying of public transport on roads, it will be practically difficult and risky for teachers to commute to far off places. The only viable alternative to this issue lies in rational transfers of teachers wherein they are posted near their homes so that they don't need public transport and can commute to their work places on foot. Greeting teachers on Teachers Day, Raman Suri added that the move will, while ensuring proper attendance of staff, will also eliminate the risk of spread of coronavirus while commuting from one place to another. Raman Suri said that Commissioner Secretary Education, Asghar Samoon, and Director Education for Jammu as well Srinagar must give a thought to this and ensure that teachers are not made to travel to far off places to avoid mass contact in public transport system, which otherwise is also not plying to the full capacity. |
