BGSBU’s AP becomes Member of J&K Biodiversity Council | | | Jammu, Sept 5: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir established J&K Biodiversity Council for conservation of Biodiversity of Jammu and Kashmir. This council will work in consultation with the National Biodiversity Authority of India. Dr Susheel Verma, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Botany of BGSB University has been included in the J&K Biodiversity Council as non-official member. Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Prof. Javed Musarrat congratulated Dr. Verma for his inclusion in the apex body established by the Govt.of Jammu and Kashmir for the conservation of Biodiversity. Dr. Verma Joined as Scientist in Centre for Biodiversity Studies, School of Biosciences and Biotechnology of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University Rajouri in the year 2007. Dr. Verma got extramural funding to the tune of about Rs. 2.50 crores from different funding agencies like DST, DBT, MoEFCC and NMHS of Govt. of India to undertake research in the area of Biodiversity Conservation. Dr. Verma has been instrumental in the establishment of Lead Botanic Garden for North Western Geographic region of India in BGSBU with financial support from Ministry of Environment Forests and climate Change in 2009. This garden has been recognized by Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) Kew, London under International Agenda for Botanic Gardens in Conservation in 2018.
