PEECC condemns arrest of AIPEF leaders
9/29/2020 10:10:46 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Sept 29: The Jammu & Kashmir Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (PEECC) strongly condemned the arrest of All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) leaders including its chairman by the UP administration in response to their genuine protest against privatization of Discom in UP.
The illegal arrest of one of our bravest voices who spoke for the constitutional values of our country chairman AIPEF, Er Shailendra Dubey along with other leaders and employees on September 28 marks a sad day for the country where the priority of present day government is in ease of making business for the profit monger community and all aspects related to the right of electricity has been set aside. The Central Government is out to destroy the power sector of country despite everyone is going through tough times because of COVID-19 crisis which clearly is unethical and immoral.
To rush through such changes in Power Sector at a time when the states/UTs and public face the novel coronavirus disease crisis is inexplicable. It is a sad day for the country that the decision of privatization has been announced in this crisis situation of COVID-19 which goes against the basic ethos of democracy where under the major policy decision shift requires threadbare consultations with all the stakeholders including general public which will have direct impact due to privatization of power sector.
The JKPEECC vehemently criticizes the approach of the Government ventilated through the proposed "draconian and anti-people" electricity legislation as well as privatization proposal with the clear objective of snatching away the right of access to electricity.
In that spirit, we stand in solidarity with Er Shailendra Dubey, other leaders and employees who are arrested.
It is to inform that the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE) the broad based united platform of all National Federation of Electricity Employees & Engineers, will be observing nationwide demonstration and protest meeting on October 5, 2020 all over the country for withdrawal of Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and to oppose privatization of electricity distribution.
