Sarpanchs refuse to withdraw 20K on account of purchase of sports kits | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 3: A major controversy has erupted between the Sarpanchs and officials of Youth Services and Sports in Doda and Kishtwar districts as the Sarpanchs have refused to withdraw an amount of Rs 20000 on account of purchase of the sports kits as same was purchased without their consent or without taking them on board by the Youth Services and Sports Department. As per the details available with Early Times, Block Development Council Chairman, Block Gundna Sarshad Ahmed Natnoo has written a detailed letter to Assistant Commissioner Development Doda apprising him about the resentment shown by the Sarpanchs towards the purchase and distribution of sports kits. In his letter addressed to ACD Doda, BDC Chairman alleged misappropriation of funds allotted to Panchayats for purchase of sports kits by the administration. “The government of Union Territory of J&K has released funds to the tune of Rs 20000 per Panchayat for purchase of sports kits for Panchayats. This money was transferred into the accounts of Panchayats and put at the disposal of concerned Sarpanchs. But astonishingly the kits were purchased and provided by District Administration by surpassing the authority of Sarpanchs which is gross violation of PRI Act” reads the letter, adding that no Sarpanch or Panchayat Secretary will make any payment of the same as they have not purchased it. Similar reports were received from several other areas of Doda and Kishtwar districts where the elected representatives had been kept in dark and the officials at the helm of the affairs had purchased the sports kits on their own. The Sarpanchs urged upon the LG Manoj Kumar Senha to intervene into the matter and order a probe besides urging him to fix the responsibility on the guilty officials who are undermining the institution of Panchayats.
