Excise Commission Team Raids Brick Kilns in Central Kashmir’s Budgam | | | EArly times Report
Budgam, Oct 9: Excise Department Friday raided brick kilns in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district and destroyed illicit distillation found in different kilns. According to reports a team of Excise Central Range led by Excise Taxation Officer conducted raids at brick Kilns in Ichgam area of Budgam and found 50 kilograms of ‘lahan’ and 5 litres of illicit liquor in isolated area adjacent to the said Brick Kiln. The team recovered these items and subsequently destroyed them on spot. Rajesh Shavan, Excise Commissioner told news agency KNT that labourers working in brick kilns were questioned and awareness regarding illicit distillation was conveyed. He said ‘lahan’ is any solution made from any kind of gur or molasses or both to which a fermentation agent is added to promote fermentation. He said that similar raids were conducted in Chadoora area of the district. These raids were supervised by Bharat Singh, Deputy Excise Commissioner Accounts.
