DB imposes fine Rs 25000 on RDD | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 9: Division Bench of J&K High Court Comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Puneet Gupta has imposed Rs 25000 as fine on Urban Development Department for not complying with its directions on notification of Solid Waste Management Bye Laws in UT of J&K. Division Bench comprising Gita Mittal and Justice Puneet Gupta imposed the costs on RDD after observing that the department in keeping with its direction has not informed it as and when solid waste Management bylaws were notified by Panchayats, Municipal Councils, Municipal Committees and other local authorities in J&K and Ladakh. Pointing out that the respondents were not bothered about compliances with its orders, the Court said: “ “Even more distressing is the fact that an important issue as important as the notification of Solid Waste Management of Bye Laws is not being treated with the seriousness which it deserves”. “ In case after case, we are receiving complaints of the lack of any method in the management of Solid Wastes in the Union Territory of J&K” the Bench said. The court imposed costs of Rs.25, 000 on UDD. “It is unfortunate that let alone implementation, we are not even being informed as to the status of the notification of the Solid Waste Management Bye Laws by the local authorities”, it said. While the court directed that the fine imposed be deposited with the Advocates Welfare Fund within a period of two weeks, it said Proof of costs shall be placed before the Registry of Court. (JNF)
