Newly recruited militant arrested, 4 ultras killed in 24 hrs in south Kashmir | | | Srinagar, Oct 11: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a newly recruited militant along with arms and ammunition during an encounter in south Kashmir, where a top Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander was among four ultras killed in two separate operations on Saturday.
A police official said a newly recruited militant was captured alive late last evening during an encounter in Pulwama, where LeT’s top commander Zahid Nazir Bhat alias Zahid Tiger was among two militants killed in the exchange of fire.
He said troops of one Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Dadoora in Pulwama on Saturday. "Two militants were killed in the exchange of fire which ensued during the CASO," he said, adding the third militant, who had recently joined militant ranks, was captured alive.
In another incident, two militants, including a foreigner, were killed in an encounter at village Chingam in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.
Chinar Corps Commander Lt General B S Raju said one of the two militants killed in Kulgam encounter was a foreigner. He said it was a big success as the killing of any foreign militant brings peace in that area.
A police spokesman said the militants killed in Kulgam encounter belonging to JeM. They were identified as Tariq Ahmad Mir, a resident of Devsar Kulgam while another was Sameer Bhai alias Usman, a resident of Punjab, Pakistan.
He said both the militants were involved in many attacks on civilians and security personnel. He said incriminating material, including arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
A defence ministry spokesman said one M4 Rifle and one pistol besides other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
