Omar takes ‘grand old party’ head on for skipping meet | Congress officially out of Gupkar alliance | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 16: The rift between the Congress Party in Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference has reached to the next level with former J&K chief minister and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah launching a direct attack at the Congress party accusing it of adopting an indifferent attitude towards the Gupkar declaration. In a recent TV interview, Omar Abdullah took a dig at the Congress party hinting that the party was acting indifferently when it comes to becoming the part of the alliance which is demanding restoration of August 4, 2019 position. Omar’s such an attack against Congress party which was otherwise a signatory to Gupkar resolution came on a day when Congress skipped the meeting that took place between various political groups after the release of Mehbooba Mufti from 14 month detention. Congress party’s JK Chief had cited medical reasons earlier in the day for not attending the meeting. Though he didn’t divulge any further details, he said, he was advised by the doctors to undergo a thorough medical check-up besides COVID-19 examination as a result, he was not able to attend all party meeting at the residence of NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah. On October 12 during her Jammu and Kashmir visit, Congress party’s in-charge of its J&K affairs Rajni Patil advocated for the reservation of jobs for the locals of J&K in the erstwhile state. The statement has raised eyebrows as the party is signatory to the Gupkar resolution that demands reversal of all the decisions taken post August 5, 2019. Meanwhile, Ms Patil during her Jammu and Kashmir visit demanded nothing more than the reservation of jobs for the locals here. She also demanded restoration of statehood and no reversal of the decision related to the abrogation of Article 370. “Our first demand from Congress and Mir sahib is that first of all there should be restoration of statehood. We will fight for it until our last breath. We along with our leader Rahul Gandhi, the entire Congress party will fight shoulder to shoulder alongside you for it and this state should get statehood back. This will be our demand,” she said. The statement issued by Ms Patil goes similar to what Ghualm Nahi Azad said earlier on March 13, this year when he met the freed NC patriarch Dr Farooq Abdullah at the latter's residence in Srinagar. Azad while talking to the media persons along with Dr Farooq pitched for the restoration of Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and preferred not to raise any issue pertaining to the abrogation of 370 and whether the order issued on August 5, last year should be rolled back. |
