Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers seek regularization, salary hike
10/17/2020 12:36:21 AM
Early Times Report

RAMBAN, Oct 16: The Department of J&K Youth Services and Sports has recruited Rehbar-e Khel teachers in the year 2019 in different Schools of Jammu and Kashmir in order to uplift the Youth Service and Sports Department in Union Territory.
The probation period of the physical education teachers recruited Rehbar-e-khel physical education Teacher has been kept as seven long years.
According to the policy the monthly honorarium was fixed Rs 3000 for the first two years and 4000 for three to seven years, which is very low from the basic pay.
“It is really not possible in today’s world to fulfil the daily basic needs of physical education teachers. More than 50% of the teachers are married and have families who are wholly and solely dependent on these 100 rupees I am posted 10km away from my place where I am living so I have to spent 60Rs per day for bus fare which is quite impossible for me added Shahbaz Katoch.
Shahbaz Katoch said “that More than 50% of mere food and water on a meagre amount of RS 100 a day the teachers are married and have families who are wholly and solely dependent for their basic needs on this meagre sum these 100 rupee, we can’t afford a spoon or even a school fee of our children”. Whereas the teachers in this department are highly qualified in which some are PhD holders and some of them had Masters Degree and still they are having low Salaries.
The teachers of this department is working day and night. Also the Teachers have participated every kind of program conducted by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
The rules of the policy are somehow discriminatory and unjust so they are requesting Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to redressed the grievances at the earliest so that they will not face the problems ahead.
In 2019, the then Jammu and Kashmir Government appointed Physical Education teachers under Rehbar-e-khel, a scheme envisaged to provide jobs to unemployed youth.
The appointments were made following a transparent selection process through interviews. The interview panels at distric level comprised of District Youth Services and Sports Officer, two other members and were headed by the respective deputy commissioners.
About 3000 aspirants were appointed subsequently. Most of these are highly qualified holding Mphil and PhD degrees and many having qualified prestigious exams like NET, SET and JRF. Besides many have played at national as well as international levels.
A salary of Rs 3000 was fixed for the appointees which is too meagre an amount to survive in the present circumstances.
The amount paid as salary is a clear voilation of the supreme court rulings from time to time about equal pay for equal work.
The honorable Prime Minister in his Man ki Baat programme promised to implement the Minimum Wages Act in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Having said so, it is requested that the genuine demands of Rehbar-e-khel teachers be accepted and much needed releif be provided to them.
The aspirants hope for kind and sympathetic consideration of their issues.
