NC, PDP enacting drama | | | National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joining hands to get everything back is nothing more than a drama. The so-called “Gupkar Declaration” signed by these parties is aimed at hoodwinking the people of Kashmir. These parties know it very well that post August 5, 2019 political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir has changed drastically. These politicians don’t stand anywhere as they have been left with nothing to sell. The so-called People’s Alliance which was formed recently after the release of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is an attempt to send a message that Kashmir centric political parties are still relevant. Both NC and the PDP prior to the Centre’s August 5, 2019 decision were bête-noire of each other and leaders of both the parties couldn’t even stand the sight of each other. In 2019, Mehbooba’s close aide, Naeem Akhtar, had accused NC president Farooq Abdullah of being BJP’s chamcha. Mehbooba on many occasions in the past had blamed Abdullah family of surrendering everything. On the other hand Farooq and Omar Abdullah never missed an opportunity to accuse PDP about Kashmir being in the mess. After change in J&K’s status-quo both NC and PDP have realized that both the parties have been turned into non-entities and they sail in the same boat. For the past seven decades the NC befooled people by talking about autonomy. When PDP came into existence it raised the bogey of Self Rule. Both these parties preached everything short of separatism despite the leaders of these political formations enjoying all the perks and privileges provided by the Government of India (GoI). These politicians were repeatedly told by the GoI that they have to remain loyal to the country and they will have to mend their ways. But these leaders always tried to project themselves as the only leaders, who can rule J&K and call the shots. They blackmailed New Delhi and always threatened that Kashmir will slip out of the hands of New Delhi if they are sidelined. As on date they stand cornered and new faces have replaced them. This new breed of politicians is ready to hold the tricolor close to their chest and believes in nationalism. The Kashmir centric leaders are finding it hard to believe that their monarchial role is over and they are no more the kings. The so-called Gupkar Declaration signed by these leaders has been rejected by the people and the Centre as well. Tantrums being thrown by them are not going to help their cause. |
