Omar defends Mehbooba from Prasad’s attack | New unity among Kashmir centric parties | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 25: Within days after formation of ‘Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration’, National Conference leaders have started protecting their arch rival Mehbooba Mufti from ‘political attacks’. Within an hour Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad attacked PDP president Mehbooba Mufti for ‘disrespecting’ national flag, her arch rival Omar Abdullah came to her rescue and lambasted Prasad for his remarks. Omar took a dig at Ravi Shankar Prasad over his remarks that Article 370 of the Constitution will not be restored, and urged him not to presume what the Supreme Court judges would decide on the matter. Although Mehbooba preferred to maintain a silence over Prasad’s remark, Omar seized this opportunity to counter Union Minister’s statement to give a message of unity among signatories of ‘Gupkar Declaration’ “Dear Ravi Shankar Prasad ji, we don’t expect you to restore anything but unless you are suggesting the Supreme Court has surrendered its independence & takes dictation from you please don’t presume to know what the Hon judges will decide,” Abdullah tweeted on Twitter. On Saturday, Prasad charged Mehbooba with ‘disrespecting’ the national flag and asserted that the revocation of Article 370 was done Constitutionally and that it will not be restored. Mehbooba’s comments that she will not hold the tricolour till the Kashmiri flag is restored is “downright denunciation” of the national flag’s sanctity, Prasad said. In many ways, Mufti has shown serious disrespect to the very image of India which the tricolour represents, he added. |
