Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 30: The faculty members at the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri on Friday came out in support of aggrieved candidates and said that a faculty member, who was member of Departmental Research Committee (DRC) violated UGC norms by interviewing his own brother. “In Biotechnology department, a candidate appeared in the interview and topped the list. Off late, we came to know he happens to be the brother of our senior who himself was the member of the Departmental Research Committee (DRC). This whole thing has created doubts in our minds and has agitated the candidates who appeared for the interview,” a faculty member told Early Times. He claimed that this year the University management released the list of selected without getting the final list signed by the members of the Departmental Research Committee. “Last year we signed the final copy but this year we weren’t even consulted,” he said. He said that the chairman of the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) hasn’t even evaluated the score card they shared with him through email. “I am sure he hasn’t even evaluated the score card,” he added. Candidates alleged that in violation of set norms the University authorities released a list of selected candidates without mentioning the points obtained by them in entrance and interview. Sources revealed to this newspaper a senior faculty member, who is one of the DRC members in the Zoology department, is heading the Departmental Research Committee of Biotechnology thus again violating set norms and regulations. They revealed that he is also violating the rules and regulations laid out by UGC and University as he has kept 17 research scholars under his supervision. According to norms, they said, an Associate professor can have a maximum of six scholars as per UGC norms. As reported earlier, a group of aggrieved candidates who have been denied admission alleged the officials violated the rules to accommodate some blue eyed candidates. The University administration had issued admission notification for Ph D and M. Phil programs this year for around 15 subjects vide notification number No. BGSBU/Acad/20/02. The last date for submission of the forms was 15th of February. “Last date for sale and submission of Admission Application Forms is February 15, 2020 & with the late fee of Rs. 200/- is February 20, 2020,” reads the notification issued by Dean Academic Affairs. The candidates alleged that the university authorities deliberately delayed the process to accommodate blue-eyed candidates. |
