Srinagar, Nov 4: The so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration has landed in trouble following the trip to Kargil as the people there posed embarrassing questions to the visiting delegation. Sources said even though the PAGD recently started its public outreach from Kargil district of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the leadership of one of its constituents remained under scanner during the trip. Sources said the leaders in Kargil asked the delegation led by former Chief Minister and National Conference president Omer Abdullah was shocked to know that around two months ago one of the senior leaders of the party that is part of the PAGD had visited the region to try to convince the local population to welcome the creation of the UT of Ladakh. The said party is headed by a separatist turned mainstream politician. Sources said the Kargil leaders told the PAGD that the leaders from that party had been trying to convince them not to opt for any protests against New Delhi. “You are telling one thing but they (leaders) told us a different story. Now you decide that whom should we believe in?” sources said the Kargil political leadership told the visiting politicians. Sources said some of the PAGD leaders felt embarrassed that the members of the amalgam were resorting to double speak. It is pertinent to mention that apart from the Peoples Conference, former Chief Minister and National Conference Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah has already drawn criticism for speaking one language before the leaders of the Peoples Alliance and speaking another language at the district board meetings which he attends as the concerned MP. The PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also already holding separate protests and even issues separate statements on twitter over issues where consent of the PAGD is a needed. “They PAGD have landed in mess and it cannot last for long. They are political rivals who cannot stay united for long,” said a senior politician who is closely monitoring the developments. Despite repeated attempts the leaders of the PAGD were not available for comments. |
