ICDS hosts workshop on “Paushtik Aahaar”

JAMMU, Nov 7: One day workshop on “Paushtik Aahar – one of the Paanch Sutras of POSHAN Abhiyan” was today hosted by Integrated Child Development Services(ICDS)Scheme here with the objective of identification, assessment and management of children with Moderate Acute Malnourishment(MAM) and Severe Acute Malnourishment(SAM), here.
Mission Director, Integrated Child Development Services(ICDS) Scheme, Nitu Gupta inaugurated the event.
In her inaugural address, MD ICDS recounted the achievements recorded under Poshan Abhiyan, She said 8 Lakh beneficiaries having been covered during the month long POSHAN Maah 2020. “Similarly 83percent targets have been recorded under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) since its inception, she added.
The Mission Director emphasised the need for maintaining close coordination among all Convergent Departments namely ICDS, RDD & Panchayati Raj, Health, Education, Jal Shakti (PHE) etc., as POSHAN Abhiyaan brings about convergence of various nutrition related schemes by identifying and bringing under one framework key Nutrition related interventions, indicators and targets to be monitored and achieved by relevant line Departments/ Ministries implementing the schemes.
The programme included Power Point presentations on Overview of POSHAN Abhiyaan by CDPO Jammu, Akanksha Kalsotra, Identification and Management of SAM & MAM Children by Medical Officer Dr. Rimpee Devi and Nutritional Assessment & Management of SAM and MAM children and overall nutritional management of ICDS beneficiaries by Dr Hemla Aggarwal.
Statistical Analysis of varied activities undertaken by the ICDS Projects in J&K at Anganwadi- sector, village, block and District levels was also discussed.
Five Key themes of POSHAN Abhiyaan, also known as Paanch Sutras namely, First 1000 days of child, Anaemia prevention in women, children and adolescent girls, Diarrhoea management, Hygiene and sanitation and Nutrient rich Food, were highlighted and deliberated upon during the programme.
The programme witnessed extensive focus on nutritional assessment of children by using Growth Monitoring tools including infantometer, stadiometer, salter scale and mother and child weighing scale to segregate undernourished children in three parameters namely weight for age, height for age and weight for height for categorisation of children into different types of malnourished children.
Later, remedial action for management of SAM & MAM children by including local dietary interventions for improvement in nutritional status was taken up by Dr Hemla Aggarwal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arun Manhas shared the case study/experiences of successful implementation of Mid-Day Meal programme in various schools in J&K. He further highlighted the convergence of different educational levels and ICDS for providing joyful learning and distribution of Mid day meal at door steps so that they don't miss on their supplementary Nutritional needs.
Dr. Narinder Bhatial –Divisional Nodal Officer, NHM shared the implementation of various convergent schemes viz.,Janani Suraksha yojana, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakaram, District Early Intervention centres., Full fledged immunization programme and Family planning programmes to name a few schemes run by NHM. He further emphasized the need to have due feedback from beneficiaries and specified three As namely AWW, ANM, and ASHA , Village Health and Sanitation Nutrition Days , RBSK visits and Health and Wellness centres are certain fundamental tools to achieve our Poshan Abhiyan goals which in long term is a Nation building programme.
A Felicitation ceremony for best performing officers/officials of ICDS Department during the month (September) long programme POSHAN Maah 2020 was also organized during the programme. The programme concluded with the presentation of Vote of Thanks by Deputy Director ICDS, Jammu, Atul Kumar.
Among others, Joint Director ICDS Devender Singh Katoch, District Programme Officer, Jammu Natasha Kalsotra, District Programme Officer Reasi , Renu Kumari, District Programme Officer Doda , Shahida Parveen and Child Development Project Officers of various projects and officials from different line departments attended the workshop.
