Race among Peoples Alliance constituents mocks at 'unity' | | | Early Times Report jammu, Nov 7: Even as some of the main regional political parties of Jammu and Kashmir recently pledged unity under the banner of the so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, two of the main constituents are acting like rivals in the PAGD. A few days after the parties decided to "work in unity" for the so called revival of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party are running parallel events. While Mehbooba Mufti's PDP took a lead to hold protests and to call a press conference, the very next day Omar Abdullah and his National Conference went for a similar move. On October 29, the PDP leaders led by Khurshid Aalam led a protest rally in the summer capital of Srinagar followed a press conference by Mehbooba Mufti. Sources said the individual decision of the PDP to take a lead left the National Conference unnerved. Sources said the same evening some of the NC leaders held a meeting with the Abdullahs asking them to hold a similar event in Srinagar lest PDP takes mileage. It is pertinent to mention that Mehbooba Mufti also made a veiled attack on the Omar Abdullah saying she was not the kind of leader who shows her presence on the Twitter alone. Sources said it was there and then decided that the NC would hold a party events like PDP. Sources said finding Omar and Mehbooba racing to take mileage, the Peoples Conference led by Sajjad Gani Lone has also called a meeting of his party leaders to decide future course of action. Sources said there was insecurity between the constituents of the so called Peoples Alliance that "none of them should take individual mileage and thus are racing with each other." Even on October 30, when Dr Farooq Abdullah was allegedly denied permission to offer prayers at Hazratbal, Mehbooba Mufti issued a separate statement before a joint statement was issued by the PAGD. Their independent rallies for the so called common goal raises questions. "If these parties are united why don't they hold rallies jointly? Or is that Dosti Pakki, Kharcha Apna Apna?" said a senior politician in Jammu. Despite repeated attempts the Peoples Alliance leaders couldn't be contacted for comments. |
