People violate COVID-19 protocol, admin ignores | Jammu markets witness huge rush; social distancing, masks disappear | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 10: The COVID-19 threat is still alive and it is evident from daily caseload but health advisories as well as protocols are being openly violated across Jammu and Kashmir. In view of the ongoing festival and marriage season, a huge rush of visitors is witnessed in markets across Jammu city and other districts. Markets are packed with shoppers and COVID protocols have been thrown to winds. The face masks as well as social distancing have disappeared. Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated appeals to the public as well as administration not to lower the guard as COVID-19 threat is still looming large, neither a common man nor administration have taking measures to check the spread of infections. “The situation in markets seems to be quite normal as it was in pre-COVID-19 days. Shopkeepers have almost lifted the check on assembly of shoppers at their shops. People are seen shoulder to shoulder, huddled in crowded markets as if the pandemic has ended”, a local said, adding that even the administration seems in no mood to take any preventive measures to enforce the COVID-19 norms. It’s in place to mention here that the third wave of COVID has already reached Delhi and experts have warned that the cases will increase in the winter. “People in Jammu should adhere to the norms otherwise the situation can take an ugly turn as the weather becomes cold,” said a local. |
