NC leader barred from travelling abroad | | | EARLY tIMES rEPORT
Srinagar, Nov 13: National Conference leader and former MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmed Kaloo on Friday alleged that he was stopped at IGI Airport, New Delhi and was barred from travelling to Dubai. "I was stopped at Emigration Counter and wasn't allowed to board a Dubai bound flight that was scheduled to leave New Delhi International Airport around 8:00 PM," Altaf Kaloo told Early Times. He said that the officials informed him that some politicians from Jammu and Kashmir are barred from travelling outside the country. “The authorities at the airport advised me to get permission from CID Srinagar for travelling abroad," he claimed. Kaloo said that he was scheduled to visit Dubai to attend a family function. “My family members were allowed to board the plane and they have reached. In fact my luggage as well,” he said. Kaloo said that immigration officials informed him that they have a list of around 38 (thirty eight) politicians from Jammu and Kashmir who they will not allow to travel outside the country. “I was not only stopped from travelling to Dubai but detained like a criminal for more than four hours. It was only after the intervention of Kashmir police officers that I was released and allowed to travel back to Kashmir,” he said. "I briefed my party Vice-President Omar Abdullah and requested him to raise the issue before the authorities so that the travel ban is lifted," he added. He said that the immigration authorities at the airport told him that a 'travel ban' on some politicians of Jammu and Kashmir will remain in effect until March 2021. Kaloo was one among the scores of Kashmiri politicians who was detained after the abrogation of Special Status in Jammu and Kashmir last year in the first week of August.
