With authorities in slumber social worker comes to help elderly lady in Udhampur | | | Ashwani Sharma Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Nov 16: While the concerned authorities as well as administration is yet to wake up from slumber of paying no heed to the vital issues of people in extreme needs of the essential commodities and means of livelihood, a social worker has came forward to help an elderly lady living with her mentally retarded sons at a village in this district. It is pertinent to mention here that Early Times in its November 13, 2020 edition has published a news story under caption 'Mother, 2 mentally retarded sons struggle to survive' after reading which a social worker, Sukhdev Singh reached the place of that old woman with all important things including blanket, gas stove, cylinder, eatables etc. Singh also assured to provide cement and arrange other construction material from an NGO to make the house for the elderly lady where she could live with safety along with her mentally retarded sons. Geeta Devi, 80, of village Pangara in district Udhampur is the only guardian of two mentally retarded sons and the family lives in a dilapidated one room house that can collapse anytime. Neighbours somehow manage to provide food to the poor family but the villagers say that they can't do it for long. The lady has one room (kacha) house in which she along with her sons live and they tie their cattle too there. She even got no benefit under PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana). |
