UDA celebrates National Press Day | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 16: United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Jammu and Kashmir celebrated National Press Day. “National Press Day is celebrated to commemorate the foundation of Press Council of India. The day is symbolic of free and responsible journalism. We stand with journalists and media houses that strive everyday to bring out the truth,” said Convenor UDA, Rajiv Mahajan. “Press has always played an outstanding role in empowering the people and furthering national interest. Democracy cannot survive without a free and fearless press,” he said and added, “Press is the 4th Pillar of Democracy, which ensures that citizens are aware of the happenings and discourses in the country and elsewhere. Let us commit ourselves to use freedom of press responsibly and impartially.” When the country came to a standstill in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown, it was the print and electronic media which provided the latest updates on the pandemic front. More importantly, both print and electronic media have played an invaluable role in educating the masses and creating awareness on the precautions to be taken to combat COVID-19 and prevent spreading of deadly virus in the country, Rajiv said. Saying that it is unfortunate that print media of Jammu has been badly discriminated for the last five years, Mahajan urged LG Manoj Sinha to end discrimination in providing advertisement to local newspapers between Jammu and Kashmir regions. |
