Early Times Report

KISHTWAR, Nov 17: National Conference has chosen a government employee to contest the upcoming DDC elections from Palmar constituency in Kishtwar district. Tahir Masood Sheikh, Technical Assistant in MGNREGA, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has resigned from his job and is now contesting the election from Palmar constituency on National Conference mandate.
Speaking to Early Times, Sheikh said that he had decided to resign from the government job with only motive to help the poor people of his area which is one of the most backward pockets of the Union Territory of J&K.
He said that after serving the RDD department for nearly 13 years as a contractual employee is still waiting to get regularized, adding that despite repeated assurances the government failed to regularize the MGNREGA employees like him. He said that he will fight for the cause of unemployed youths as the rate of unemployment is growing day by day in Kishtwar district, adding that the local unemployed youths are being denied the jobs in local power projects.
He said that his focus will remain on fighting for road, health, water and schools.
Sheikh said that he will also fight for the cause of MGNREGA employees including GRS, TAs, MIS Operators and supporting staff who despite serving in the department for over 10 years are yet to be regularised.
He thanked the National Conference leadership for posing trust on him and giving him a chance to contest the DDC elections on party ticket..
Palmar is going to election during the 5th phase of the polls on December 10.
