Farooq, Omar talk about everything forget NC founder | No holiday on Sheikh Abdullah's birthday this year | | Early Times Report jammu, Dec 02: For the first time in the past so many years , there is going to be no official holiday on December 5, on account of the birthday of National Conference founder, Sheikh Abdullah. The practice was in vogue since Abdullah's death in 1982. But after J&K's reorganization in 2019 the holiday has been declared null and void. What is more ironic to find is the fact that ever since their release from captivity, both Farooq Abdullah as well as his son Omar Abdullah haven't uttered a single word on cancellation of the holiday on Sheikh's birthday. Even though they spoke on a plethora of issues including statehood, Article 370 and all the decisions taken post August 5, there was no mention in their rhetoric about the cancellation of the holiday on December 5. Now, December 5, this year will be the normal working day for the first time in the past so many years. Prior to this, the title of Sher-e-Kashmir earlier accorded to NC founder Sheikh Abdullah was also removed from the list of the official titles. Pertinent to mention that noted historian and senior NC leader Mohammad Yusuf Taing had revealed that December 5 was not the actual birth date of National Conference founder, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, and he was actually born on January 29 and his year of birth was 1903 and not 1905 as mentioned in the official records. This issue was brought into the notice of then chief minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah, but he did nothing to set the records straight. Many people believe that observing December 5 as a state holiday for the past so many years was in no way justified as Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah himself did not know at what date he was actually born. |
