Snow clearance on Sinthan road picked up pace amid Jammu-Srinagar NHW blockade | | | ASIF IQBAL NAIK Early Times Report KISHTWAR, Jan 13: After least chances of opening up of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), which is responsible for construction and maintenance of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is exploring its option for opening of alternative Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag National Highway to ease out the pressure on existing Jammu-Srinagar National Highway which is closed since last 4-5 days due to collapsing of a bridge at Ramban. As per the details available with Early Times, work is in progress with great vigour to open strategic NH 244 to link Kashmir with Doda-Kishtwar-Sinthan- Anantnag road. Army (11 RR) is also providing help and security to the snow clearing staff of NHIDCL as a part of its initiative "in the service towards the people". The sources told the Early Times that the snow clearance has been completed upto Allo farm Sinthan and efforts are on to clear the snow. The people in Kishtwar District also demanded pressing of advance snow clearance machines for opening of Sinthan pass so that an alternative connectivity could be provided to the Kashmir valley at the time when the existing Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is playing hide and seek with the daily commuters besides halting the supplies of essential commodities to valley. It is pertinent to mention that Union Roads and Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has couple of months ago announced construction of strategic 9.8 KM Singpura-Vailoo tunnel which will make Kishtwar-Srinagar NH all weather road beside will reduce distance of around 80 kms between Kishtwar and Srinagar and in addition will act as an alternative highway to Kashmir valley. |
