Poonch Admin sitting on State land encroachment issue | Report of Committee on encroachment nowhere in sight | | RAJESH TANDON Early Times Report POONCH, Jan 16: The administration of Poonch district has been sitting on state land encroachment issue, which can be well understood from the fact that the administration had ordered the constitution of a committee to identify cases but the report of the same is nowhere in sight. Sources told Early Times that after number of cases had reported about encroachment of State land in Poonch district after 2014 particularly Irrigation Department land, the Deputy Commissioner Poonch had constituted a committee nearly three months ago to conduct inquiry and identify such cases and had directed the committee to submit its report within 15 days. "But it has been more than three months since the committee constituted but the fact finding report is nowhere in sight," they said. If sources are to be believed, there is deep nexus between encroachers and revenue officials, who have been shielding them by hiding reports. These encroachers are so powerful that due to their proximity with influential politicians, they have been indiscriminately grabbing State land. "The land grabbing cases picked up in the district after the 2014 flash flood and in which the land belonged to the Irrigation Department was encroached," they alleged. Sources further disclosed that it has been observed that whenever a new officer comes in the Revenue Department, he issues notice to the encroachers and then the matter is shelved. Although when concerned Tehsildar was contacted in this connection, he said that they had submitted the report with the administration but shockingly there is no such report with the administration. When contacted, DC Poonch said that he was busy in his work but he would follow up the case. |
