Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 19: A top police officer on Friday said that two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, including a foreigner, carried out the attack that left two policemen dead on airport road in the summer capital, Srinagar. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said that both the militants have been identified and will be neutralized very soon. "Two policemen were on a routine duty at Baghat chowk on Friday. The duo went to the nearby shop to purchase something. The policemen, who were unarmed, were critically injured when they were fired at from the back by a militant," Kumar, told reporters after the wreath laying ceremony at District Police Lines (DPL), Srinagar. He said doctors at the hospital tried their best, but could not save the lives of both the policemen, identified as SgCT Mohammad Yousuf resident of Zurhama Kupwara and Constable Suhail Ahmad of Logripora Aishmuqam in south Kashmir. The IGP said that the incident will help the policemen to work with more dedication and take extra precautions. "We will go for a security review and plug all the loopholes… If the policemen had their weapons on them, perhaps they would have retaliated," he said. Kumar said one of the militants is a local, identified as Saqib, while the other is a foreigner. Answering a question about reports of a local being arrested, he said that no one has been detained so far in the case. "During the search operation, someone would have brought in to know if he saw the militant running away… but no one was arrested," he added. |
