No Invitation

The Government of India has cut the Kashmir centric politicians to size. It was evident during the recent visit of the envoys of the European Union to J&K UT.
None of the leaders of the National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and other political formations were sent any invitation to meet the envoys. By keeping the politicians at bay the Centre has sent a clear message to the Kashmir centric leaders that they need to mend their ways if they want to remain relevant in the changed political scenario of Jammu and Kashmir.
The visiting envoys didn’t talk about the politics much. They seemed more interested in knowing about the pace of development and the change in security scenario. The envoys were keen to know about the governance part and other issues which touch the skin of a common man. They also seemed least interested in meeting the traditional politicians from Kashmir. It appears that foreign countries too have realized that these leaders are just paper tigers and enjoy no mass following.
Reacting to the J&K visit of foreign envoys, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti had stated that “delegations come and go,” while National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah described them as “tourists.” The Kashmir centric leaders should realize that no one is interested in J&K’s special status anymore. The envoys after winding up their visit made it clear that the change is visible.
If the Kashmir based leaders want to become relevant again, they will have to focus on the issues confronting a common man rather than flogging a dead horse. The demand to seek J&K’s statehood back is gaining momentum but the parties like NC, PDP and others are still stressing on restoration of pre-August 5, 2019 status. Most of the leaders are aware of the fact that Article 370 won’t be restored and no one in New Delhi wants to listen to them.
Kashmir centric leaders have been left with a few choices only as the times have changed. Earlier they used to keep the cake and eat it too. But now they cannot do the same thing as they stand at crossroads. These leaders cannot deny the fact they were able to rule Jammu and Kashmir for so many years due to the blessings of New Delhi. Had they been the true representatives of the masses, people would have come out to seek their release after they were arrested on August 5, 2019. But no one coming forward described their worth.
