Indo-Pak new bonhomie: A setback for Gupkar Alliance | | | Early Times Report jammu, Feb 25: Leaderships of two main constituents of the Gupkar Alliance-NC and PDP have publically welcomed new peace initiatives between India and Pakistan but this bonhomie is a severe setback to the conglomeration as this development would undermine the demand of the restoration of Article 370 in J&K. After abrogation of articles 370 and 35-A, Pakistan has taken a tough stand against India. The Pakistan government had announced not to hold any talks with India until both the articles were restored to the erstwhile state of J&K. Emboldened by the tough stand taken by Pakistan, Kashmir centric parties have formed Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) to intensify fight for 'bringing back' Article 370 and 35-A. Ironing out their rivalries, these parties fought the recently held District Development Councils (DDCs) elections jointly. After taking a tough stand against abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A, Pakistani authorities have started 'melting down' due to internal position in their country. Earlier this month, Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, in sharp contrast to his tough stand against India after the Balakot air strike in 2019, spoke of Islamabad's commitment to mutual respect and peaceful co-existence. First time after 1990s, Pakistan authorities first time decided to observe the so-called "Kashmir Solidarity Day" as a low key affair to improve relations with India. It is widely observed that Pakistani authorities have decided to not to rake up the Kashmir issue aggressively as there was pressure from civil society not to take confrontation with India on Kashmir. Leadership of Gupkar Alliance was hoping that Pakistan would rake-up Kashmir issue at international forum but recently development has shattered all plans of the Alliance |
