Srinagar, Feb 27: Authorities on Saturday advised people to travel on Jammu-Srinagar highway only after confirming status “in view of inclement weather prediction issued by MeT department in J-K”. “In view of inclement weather prediction issued by MeT department in J-K, people are advised to undertake journey on Jammu-Srinagar highway only after confirming the status of road from TCU (traffic control unit) Jammu/Ramban/Srinagar,” a traffic department official said in a statement. However, subject to fair weather and better road condition, the authorities said that LMVs (Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. “TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.” Earlier in the day, traffic on the throughfare, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was suspended after heavy rains overnight triggered shooting stones and landslides in Banihal area of Ramban district, officials said. The landslides prompted the authorities to shut the highway for traffic, they said. They said traffic was stopped at several places including Ramban, Chanderkote, Udhampur and Nagrota. On Friday, highway was closed for weekly maintenance. |
