Rohit creates 200 mts UT record in Athletics

JAMMU, Mar 20: Rohit Kumar of Jammu district created 200 meters record clocking 22:45 seconds in the ongoing 19th J&K Athletics Championship, organised by J&K Amateur Athletics Association (JKAAA) and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council (JKSC), at University of Jammu grounds, here today.
“The timing is best ever given by any athlete in J&K in 200 meters event. Rohit is expected to give improved performance in his tomorrow’s 100 meters event too. There is no dearth of talent in J&K but need of the hour is to modernise the athletics infrastructure in the Union Territory,” said general secretary and former athlete, Sharat Chander Singh.
President, SS Gill and secretary, Vinod Bhatia appreciated Rohit for giving his best timing and hoped that he may find berth in the future India camps so as to further improve in his skills and performance.
The second day events witnessed besides others by president JKOA, Dr Ashutosh Sharma, who supervised the performance of the athletes. “We are looking into the best stuff for various Olympic disciplines, including Athletics, to select and then train them for the upcoming National Games, organised under the auspices of by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). We expect J&K qualification in about nine sports events in the National Games,” said Dr Ashutosh Sharma.
