'Unofficially' PDP, NC 'wind-up' PAGD | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 20: With National Conference (NC) leadership is showing little interest to further consolidate the conglomeration, the Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is to be officially collapsed very soon. Unofficially the PAGD was disintegrated after completion of the elections of District Development Councils (DDCs) because candidates of two main constituents of the amalgam-NC and PDP had fought against each other on many seats in Kashmir Valley. Furthermore both the parties have been taking divergent stands on important issues. With much publicity the PAGD was formed in the month of October 2019 by Kashmir centric political parties with the pledge of perseverance and steadfastness towards the restoration of Article 370. This resolution was written in the Alliance's declaration where the political parties stated there would be "nothing about us without us," meaning they will stick together come what may. "We want to assure people that all our political activities will be subservient to the sacred goal of reverting to the status of J&K as it existed before August 2019," read PAGD's proud and chaste declaration. Within couple of months after its formation PAGD received a severe jolt when Sajad Lone of Peoples' Conference, left the alliance. He charged both NC and PDP with fielding proxy candidates against the officially mandated candidates of the alliance as during the DDC elections. He called these actions "a breach of trust". For the last one month PDP and NC are organizing various functions across J&K. In these functions both the political parties are using their own respective flag despite the fact that PAGD had decided to adopt erstwhile flag of J&K state as flag of the alliance. Secondly during the last some weeks, NC leadership has toned down its earlier hardstand on restoration of Article 370. Instead of vociferously demanding restoration of Article 370, NC leadership is more focused on statehood to J&K. In his recent Parliament speech, NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah spent two-third of his time talking about the farmers' protest and other issues and spared only little over a minute to express his dismay at the abrogation of Article 370. Though the remaining five parties in the PAGD have so far stuck together officially, they have stopped meeting or talking as one. No meeting of the PAGD was held during the last three months. |
