Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 30: Weather turned pleasant as bright sunshine greeted people on Tuesday after day-long rain and snow in the summer capital, Srinagar, and other parts of Kashmir valley, where night temperature dipped though settled above normal.
Meanwhile, another spell of wet weather is predicted over the weekend under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that light rain and thundershowers would occur at isolated places in Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours. "The weather will turn dry from Wednesday onwards," he said.
He said a fresh WD, which would originate from the Arabian Sea and approach the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, would hit J&K on Saturday. "Under the influence of this WD, another spell of rain and snow would occur over the weekend," he added.
After receiving incessant rain overnight, people woke up to a chilly and rainy Tuesday morning in Srinagar. However, as the day progressed, bright sunshine greeted people in the city, resulting in major improvement in the maximum temperature. But, the night temperature dipped 3 degree from Monday and settled at 8.6 degree, which is 2 degree above normal.
He said the skies would be partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 20 degree and 8 degree, respectively.
Bright sunshine greeted world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, much to the delight of tourists, who are enjoying different snow related activities. The ski resort, which is covered under several feet of snow, received overnight rain, resulting in dip in the minimum temperature. Against 1.5 degree recorded on Monday, the night temperature dipped and settled at 0.5 degree, which is over 1 degree above normal.
He said the ski resort, which is about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, witnessed a huge influx of tourists this winter season after zero business during the last two years. "Most of the hotels are booked to April end in Gulmarg," he added. Weather also turned pleasant at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, which received rain overnight, resulting in dip in the minimum temperature. Against 7 degree recorded on Monday, the night temperature dipped and settled at 2.3 degree, which is a degree above normal.
The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kukernag dipped and settled at 6 degree, 6 degree and 4.3 degree, respectively.
