Srinagar, Mar 31: The weather remained pleasant for the second successive day on Wednesday as bright sunshine greeted people in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley, where the mercury during the night dipped though remained above normal. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to remain pleasant during the next four days in Kashmir valley, where another spell of rain and snow is predicted under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is expected to hit the region on Sunday. A Met department spokesperson said that the weather is expected to remain dry in the valley with very light rain and thundershowers at one or two places in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. “The weather is expected to remain mainly dry till Saturday,” he said. However, he said a fresh WD, which would originate from the Arabian Sea and approach the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, would hit J&K on Sunday. “Under the influence of this WD, another spell of rain and snow would occur from Sunday onwards,” he added. Much to the delight of tourists, bright sunshine greeted world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, resulting in major improvement in the maximum temperature. The ski resort was the only place in the valley where the night temperature settled below freezing point. Against 0.5 degree recorded on Tuesday, the night temperature dipped and settled at minus 1 degree, which is slightly below normal. “Tourists were having a time of their lives enjoying different snow related activities,” a hotelier told UNI. He said the ski resort, which is about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, witnessed a huge influx of tourists this winter season after zero business during the last two years. “Most of the hotels are booked to April end in Gulmarg,” he added. After witnessing a dip in the night temperature, people woke up to a sunny Wednesday morning in Srinagar. The weather remained pleasant throughout the day due to sunshine in the city, where the maximum temperature settled several degrees above normal. The night temperature in Srinagar dipped 2 degree from Tuesday and settled at 6.6 degree, which is slightly above normal. He said the skies would be mainly clear to partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 21 degree and 7 degree, respectively.
