RAMBAN, Apr 17: Animal Husbandry Department today organized an awareness camp in Gool area and sensitized the people about Centrally Sponsored Schemes of dairy and poultry sector. The poultry birds under NLM-IPPP were also distributed among the farmers.
District Development Chairperson, Ramban, Dr Shamshad Shan was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr Bharat Bhushan Raina; Dr Sayar Ahmad Beigh, Technical Officer Veterinarians and Veterinary staff of Gool Sub-Division. besides farmers participated in the programme.
The Chairperson distributed 200 birds each among 2nd batch of 20 beneficiaries under NLM ITI PPP of Gool.
An amount of Rs 15,000 has already been deposited in the account of per beneficiary through DBT for night shelter. The farmers evinced keen interest and enthusiasm and interacted with the officers of the department present.
Resource Persons made people aware about the benefits of various centrally sponsored schemes on dairy and poultry sectors which shall help in doubling their incomes. They also motivated them to avail benefits of beneficiary oriented schemes besides informing them about Integrated Dairy Development Feed and Fodder Development Schemes (FDS) Integrated Poultry Development Program (IPDP) Dairy Animal Insurance and KCC etc. The CAHO said the dairy sector of animal husbandry contributes 28% to the agricultural GDP and 4.5 percent to the national GDP.
"Because of the decreasing contribution of agricultural GDP i.e 50% at the time of independence to 15% at present Central Government is giving impetus to dairy and poultry sector to push up rural economy" he said.
He informed that the value of the milk is both higher than food grains and pulses combined together and government data points growth of the income through cultivation to be 3% and through animal husbandry 14%.
