Bureaucrats not allowing us to meet LG, pushing us to wall: Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha
'JK only place in country where Mahajans, Khatris, Sikhs can't buy agricultural land'
4/17/2021 11:28:17 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 17: Romesh Chander Gupta, President of Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha, on Saturday stated that the members of Mahajan community, Khatris and Sikh community under the New Land Laws of October 26, 2020 are facing immense hardships.
In a statement Gupta said, "According to amendment made to the J&K Land Revenue Act Samvat 1996 only agriculturist can purchase land. No sale, gift exchange or mortgage can be made in favour of a person who is non agriculturist. The government has played conspiracy against Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs under the said New Land Laws. The order is prejudicial and totally against the spirit of the Constitution as the Constitution does not provide for caste based laws and order to favour one and harm the other."
"In India any person residing anywhere in the country can purchase or sell land but it is extremely depressing that Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs of J&K Union Territory cannot purchase even one marla of agriculture and whereas there is no such restriction on people belonging to other communities. Under the Constitution all the citizen's of the country are to be treated equally before law irrespective of caste, colour or creed but the government, has adopted dual policy and done gross injustice to Mahajans and Khatris in J&K who always played a key role in various field in the development of J&K."
Gupta said, "This is a matter of strong discrimination that the two communities have been kept away from selling and purchasing agricultural land."
He said that the Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha tried its best to bring the said issue into the kind notice of Lieutenant Governor many times. "All our communications including our last letter No. JCMS/4333 dated 10-02-2021 fell in the cold storage as bureaucrats didn't take any interest," Gupta said.
He said, "On the very first day after taking charge, the Lt Governor had declared that no one will face any discrimination in J&K. All these proclamations have proved to be a hoax. Even the Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha tried its best to get the permission to allow our deputation to meet the LG to discuss our problem personally, but all our efforts proved futile."
Gupta said, "If bureaucrats keep on dominating the faith of the people will soon vanish and disgusted persons/ organizations will come on the road to get justice forcibly."
"There is a great resentment and anger in the members of our Mahajan Community which can lead to strong agitation in J&K. Neither any State or UT in India except J&K has barred these two communities for the sale purchase of agriculture land then why such criminal discrimination in Union Territory of J&K."
"The J&K Government should not put Mahajan Community on any further trial and withdraw the said order of discrimination (Section 133-H of J&K Land Revenue Act Samvat 1996) Immediately and provide justice and solace to Mahajans and Khatris who comprise of about 15 lakh people in J&K UT," Gupta said.
